Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how EverChapter ("EverChapter," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, transfers, retains, processes, and protects information when you use the EverChapter mobile application, related websites, services, features, and any associated integrations or APIs (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account, signing in, installing, accessing, or using the Service in any way, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Privacy Policy and to our Terms of Service.

By using the Service, you grant EverChapter the broadest possible permission allowed under applicable law to collect, store, use, share, process, transfer, monetize, license, sublicense, and retain your information for any purpose described in this Privacy Policy or any other lawful purpose. This includes purposes that may be added later through updates to this Policy.

4. Legal bases for processing (where applicable)

Where required by law (such as under the GDPR or UK GDPR), we rely on one or more of the following legal bases to process personal information: performance of a contract; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving, and monetizing the Service; your consent (which you may withdraw where required by law); compliance with legal obligations; and protection of vital interests. Where consent is required, your use of the Service, your acceptance of this Policy, and your continued interaction with the Service constitute your consent to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

5. Sharing and disclosure

We may share, transfer, sell, license, or otherwise disclose your information in the following circumstances, in addition to any other circumstances permitted by law:

(a) Service providers and processors: cloud hosting, analytics, attribution, push-notification delivery, crash reporting, customer support, fraud prevention, payment processing, communication platforms, and similar vendors that process information on our behalf.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you acknowledge and agree that EverChapter may share, transfer, sell, license, or otherwise disclose your information for any of the purposes above and for additional lawful business purposes that may arise, including evolving commercial uses of data.

6. Advertising and analytics

We and our partners may use cookies, SDKs, mobile identifiers (including IDFA where permitted), and similar technologies to deliver advertising, measure ad performance, build audiences, and conduct analytics. Where required by applicable law or platform policy, we will request your permission (such as through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt) before engaging in certain tracking activities. If you decline, we may still process information for purposes that do not require your consent.

7. International data transfers

We may store, transfer, and process your information in any country in which we, our affiliates, or our service providers operate, including the United States and other jurisdictions whose data-protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers of personal information.

8. Data retention

We retain information for as long as we deem necessary to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, support business operations, and fulfill the purposes described in this Policy. Retention periods may vary based on the type of information, the purpose of processing, technical limitations, backup systems, and legal requirements. We are not obligated to delete information solely because your account is inactive or has been closed, except where required by law.

9. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure of your information, including incidents resulting from third-party conduct, security vulnerabilities, or events beyond our reasonable control.

10. Your choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, such as the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or port certain information, and the right to withdraw consent for certain processing. To make a request, contact us using the information in section 17. We may verify your identity before processing requests, and we may decline requests as permitted by law (for example, where information is required for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or our legitimate business interests). Even where you exercise rights, we may retain certain information as permitted by law.

You may also be able to:

  • Adjust device notification permissions in your device settings;
  • Manage tracking permissions through your device's privacy settings;
  • Manage subscription settings through your platform account (such as Apple ID);

11. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age without legally valid parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information without proper consent, contact us so we can review and, where required by law, delete the information.

12. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents may have specific rights regarding their personal information, including rights to know, delete, correct, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" as defined under California law. To exercise these rights, contact us using the information in section 17. We will respond as required by applicable law. We do not knowingly "sell" or "share" personal information of minors under 16 in the manner regulated by California law without the legally required consent. Subject to applicable law, the categories of information we may collect, use, disclose, sell, or share are described in this Policy.

13. EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar laws, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict processing, object to processing, port your information, and lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. The data controller for purposes of those laws is EverChapter or its designated operating entity, identified in our app listing or support page.

14. Automated decision-making and profiling

We may use automated systems, including statistical and machine-learning systems, to personalize content, recommend books, suggest quests, generate insights, score engagement, detect fraud or abuse, and improve the Service. Where required by law, you may have rights related to such processing; you can contact us to learn more or to exercise applicable rights.

15. Third-party services and links

The Service may rely on or link to third-party services (such as Firebase, Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, book metadata providers, StoreKit, analytics providers, advertising providers, and cloud infrastructure). These services have their own privacy practices and we are not responsible for them. Review their privacy notices before using them.

16. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. If changes are material, we may notify you in the app, by email, or through other reasonable means. Continued use of the Service after the updated Policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the updates to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have had a meaningful opportunity to review this Privacy Policy, that you understand it, and that you agree to its terms. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you waive any claim based on alleged lack of notice, lack of consent, or lack of opportunity to review.
